Safety & Security

Automatic External Defibrillators:
An AED is located in the Champagne Lounge in the Community Center. This machine can restore the normal heartbeat in cases of cardiac arrest and several of our staff have been trained to use them.

Daily Status Check:
A mid-morning hallway check is made each day by a resident volunteer to see if neighbors have opened their front doors. (This is determined when a small indicator, placed in the “up” position by the gate house attendant during nightly security rounds, has fallen to the “down” position.) If the indicator is still up, a call is made to the unit by the Concierge and, if there is no response, a staff member from Assisted Living will go into the unit with an emergency key to check on the well-being of the occupant. Participation in this program is entirely voluntary. If you do not wish to be included, please sign a waiver form obtainable from the Administration Office.

Entry Gates:
Entrance barriers allow for remote control access or a pin code entered on the security panel at the gate house. The front (west) barriers allow both entrance and exit: the rear (east) gates are for exit only. Barriers allow for one vehicle per activation. Please do not walk under open gates.

Gate house:
The gate house at the entrance to the Chateau is staffed from 5:00 p.m. through 8:30 a.m. Duties of the gate house attendants include answering the telephone, monitoring incoming vehicles, keeping a watchful eye on the community during evening hours, delivering authorized
communications and summoning help in emergencies.

Located in the bathroom(s) and hallway of each condominium, and in the rest rooms and some other common areas in the Community Center. The system is monitored in Assisted Living twenty-four hours a day. Cords should not be tied up but should reach the floor to allow activation from various levels.

Smoke Alarms:
Each condominium, and all common areas, are protected by sprinklers. The common area smoke detectors automatically activate an alarm in the Assisted Living. The alarm system may also be activated from pull-handles in the hallways. The fire alarm system is tested the first Wednesday of each month between 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Speed Limit:
The speed limit is 10 m.p.h. within the Chateau community. Please drive carefully.
