Meet the Staff

Chris Arvanitis, Executive Director

Mr. Arvanitis has been the Executive Director at Chateau Lake San Marcos for the past 7 years. He is passionate about providing a caring, safe and life-enriching environment for today’s retirement population. Dedicated to the non-profit retirement industry for the past 20 years, he strives to continually cultivate senior living amenities to meet the growing needs of residents in the community with special emphasis on maintaining and increasing homeowner property values and the value of the Chateau Community.

Mr. Arvanitis is also a California Certified Community Association Manager (CCAM) with the designation earned from the California Association of Community Managers, the leading entity in the Homeowners Association Management industry. Additionally he holds a RCFE License designation from the California Department of Social Services and is also a Master Certified Foodservice Executive and Chef.

He encourages everyone to visit Chateau Lake San Marcos to experience how carefully planned both the physical design and operations of this resort style community really are. For the money, it’s hard to beat the lifestyle offered at Chateau Lake San Marcos.

Samantha Russell, Director of Resident Services and Fitness

As Resident Services Director, I supervise the execution of key Chateau amenities from Transportation to Concierge support.   We boast a team of skilled drivers who provide warm, courteous transportation experiences to our residents, some of whom may be without a vehicle for the first time in their adult lives. Our Concierge department delivers knowledgeable, friendly assistance with meal reservations, event and transportation sign-ups, as well as general community information. Resident Services works closely with every department to create a comprehensive, luxurious retirement experience.

As an ACE certified group fitness instructor, specializing in senior fitness, I also conduct all of the fitness classes and activities including aquafit, total fitness and balance classes each week.
In addition to overseeing these vital components of the Chateau lifestyle, I also have the pleasure of conducting new resident orientations and community tours for prospective residents.  I look forward to meeting you!

Karla Sando, Controller

In Accounting, we are dedicated to providing residents with accurate, meaningful financial information and advice to support decision making in HOA business.  I am also in charge of Human Resources, helping the Chateau meet its goals through its most valuable resource – it’s PEOPLE.

Prior to joining the Chateau, I held various challenging positions as Operations Manager at the law firm of Olson, Hagel and Fishburn LLP in Sacramento, CA and Controller at Nederlander Producing Company of America in New York.  Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, children and grandchildren.

Renee Richardson, Assisted Living Director

With over 24 years of experience in the North San Diego County retirement field, I am certified by the State of California as an Administrator of Residential Care for the Elderly.  Chateau Lake San Marcos hosts an exclusive 8 bed Assisted Living Facility specifically designed for our independent residents who may need to transition into extra assistance with their activities of daily living or just need a temporary respite stay after a hospitalization. My team of caregivers and CNAs provide 24 hour support to our full-time Assisted Living residents and emergency response assistance to Chateau homeowners in their condominiums.

With my experience, I have assisted many families in their search for the best community and appropriate level of care. Although Chateau residents are given priority placement, we always welcome any seniors interested in exploring our small, personalized approach to Assisted Living.

Katrina Norford, Leisure Services Coordinator

My goal is to help our residents maintain a dynamic and satisfying lifestyle by offering activities that engage the individual on social, spiritual, intellectual and physical levels.

Whether it’s igniting an old passion or learning a new skill, getting outside or staying in shape, Chateau Lake San Marcos believes individuals can continue to be productive and grow throughout their lifetime. Elizabeth Betancourt, Dining Room Manager

What began for me as a part-time, after school job as a server in the Dining Room has evolved into a management career in our Food Services Department.  As Dining Room Manager, I hire and train the servers and bussers who become such a huge part of the Chateau experience.  

Whether you’re attending one of our special cocktail and hors d’oeuvre dinner parties or simply sitting down to a casual continental breakfast, I help each of our servers be their best in order to provide you the highest level of meal service possible.

Richard Ortiz – Culinary Director and Chef

As the Culinary Director, I strive to provide the highest quality culinary experience possible. My philosophy is to prepare meals with the freshest and top quality ingredients available. My goal each day is to meet or exceed all of your dining expectations so you leave the dining room satisfied and ready to come back for more.
As a graduate of the prestigious San Diego Culinary Institute, in La Mesa, I have focused on honing my skills at some of California's finest restaurants.  I strive to bring that experience to every meal that is prepared to you by our skilled staff of chefs.

Once again, I am very excited to be a part of the Chateau team and look forward to providing you an exception culinary experience.

Vincent Medellin, Director of Maintenance

Twenty five years ago, I was part of the original staff who helped open the doors of Chateau Lake San Marcos and through those years of experience became the Director of Maintenance. My varied duties include supervision of facilities maintenance, landscaping, waterscaping, security, housekeeping and janitorial services. My goal is to provide outstanding service while always respecting the dignity of each and every individual.
